Looking for a career change?

careerchange.jpg

Changing career requires a lot of careful thought. If you know the job you would like, you have to consider how to gain the necessary qualifications, maybe even going back to university. Vice versa, if you would like to take a certain degree or training, you have to think about what you can do with it afterwards.

The "post-16" section of this website can help you find the degree and university that suits you, and describes the career paths open to people with maths-related qualifications.

Additionally, to get a feel for the type of careers available and the qualifications they require, have a look at the job and recruitment websites below, or look through the Plus Magazine careers library.

If you would like to take a degree but are tied down to a particular place with no university in sight, it may be worth checking out the Open University. All their study programs are based on distance learning, and most students study part-time. Even better, most of their course require no previous qualifications. You only need to be over 18. See the link below.

UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, publishes a free booklet for mature students. The link below will take you to the website where you can order it. The Prospects website also has a guide for mature students; and the Royal Statistical Society has a very good guide for people who are planning a career change. Although it is aimed at people considering a degree in statistics, a lot of the information is relevant to any maths related degree.

Above all, think positively and look forward to a new and exciting part of your life!
