Why take Further Maths at A/S or A level?

If you enjoy maths you might well benefit from taking Further Maths at A/S and possibly A2 level. In this way you will spend more time doing what you enjoy. This can be a rewarding and stimulating experience, giving you further insight into your basic maths A level work, and helping you to see where your maths is going.

It is worth having a look at the Further Mathematics Network webpage given below. The network can help you if you wish to study Further Maths, whether your school or college offers it or not.

Studying Further Maths can also help by introducing some of the ideas which you would meet at the beginning of university courses. You may of course prefer to keep a broader spread of subjects at A level, taking Maths but not Further Maths. At almost every university in the UK this will not in any way affect your chances of being admitted to a degree programme in maths or related disciplines. However, a very small number of universities, no more than two or three, expect you to take Further Maths if it is available to you. You will find detailed information on exact requirements on each university's website or prospectus.
