16+ Where can mathematics take you?
Mathematics is an extremely far reaching subject, with applications in most industries the world over. However, sometimes this can make it difficult to find your niche in such a broad area. This conference aims give you an insight into where mathematics can take you, introducing you to career options you may never have considered before. Talks will be given by some truly inspiring mathematicians across many different fields, who will share their experiences of work, as well as how they got to where they are today. After the talks there will be a short Q&A panel session, where you have the chance to ask our experts any questions.

The AmplifyME Quantitative Finance simulation will give you the opportunity to understand how to leverage your math skills for top roles in finance. Indeed, through this session you will first play as a Market Maker and a Hedge Fund to experience the full flow of a trade and the manual market making process, and then you will move on to a coding challenge to learn how to automate this process using Python.

Welcome to the icebreaker event for Early Career Mathematicians (ECM) at the BAMC 2024, sponsored by the ECM Committee of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA). This is the third icebreaker event at the BAMC, after successful and enjoyable events at Loughborough in 2022 and Bristol in 2023. This year we are hosting the event in The Frederick Douglas Centre the evening before the BAMC begins.
