The Rolls-Royce Science Prize is an annual awards programme that helps teachers implement science teaching ideas in their schools and colleges. The prize is open to any school or college in the UK and is a two year programme which operates as follows:
Year One
- Up to 60 entries are awarded £1,000 Special Merit Award and requested to provide additional information to complete their entry into the Science Prize
- Our Special Merit Award winning entries form our short list from where we select our finalists and receive a further £5,000 each and a video recorder to capture the development of the project.
Year Two
- Finalist schools are also given the support of a specialist mentor to help implement their proposals as outlined in their action plan.
- Finalist schools carry out their proposals over the academic year and document this with monthly diary entries and video entries.
- Judges assess the submitted documentation and recommend a winner and runner-up.
- Finalists attend the prestigious Rolls-Royce Science Prize awards dinner
Help from the Science Prize team and the Science Learning Centre network is available throughout the competition.
If you want to find out more about the prize, including regional centres that can provide individual assistance visit the Rolls-Royce science prize page where up to date entry procedures and criteria are available.
If you wish to enter for the maths component of the prize the specific criteria that judges will be looking for are entries which demonstrate that mathematics is integral to everyday work in the field of science. They will be looking to reward excellence in mathematics teaching across the education system and support teacher continuing professional development.
